The Poultry Doc began with Dr. Blayne Mozisek, a Texas native whose passion for birds started on his grandfather's land surrounded by chickens, turkeys, peacocks, and pheasants. That early fascination led him through veterinary school at Texas A&M and on to a Master of Avian Medicine at the University of Georgia, launching a career in commercial poultry health. Along the way, he saw a clear gap in reliable, poultry-specific care for backyard chicken owners.
As backyard flocks grew in popularity and chickens became valued companions, access to qualified care did not keep pace. Most poultry veterinarians work in large-scale production, while small and large animal clinics often lack specialized poultry training. That gap left many owners sorting through conflicting, and sometimes unsafe, advice online.
The Poultry Doc was created to change that.

The Team Grows
In early 2026, Dr. Jess Higgins joined the team, bringing deep expertise across commercial poultry production, clinical practice, and backyard flock health. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine with additional training in avian health from the University of Georgia, she has managed large-scale flock health programs by coordinating with nutritionists and production teams to optimize vaccination strategies and disease response.
